Burning Man Shuttle

BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE 2009

BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE 2008That’s right…We’re back for Year 3! Meet new lifelong friends on the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE to Black Rock City. You will be scooped up at Reno International and whisked to Whole Foods for a quick grocery run and then on to the playa! This is our third year in a pilot program to lessen our cumulative impact of travel to the greatest city on Mama Earth.

A $65-$75 donation to Burn Clean Project will reserve a One Way ride to or from the playa, helping you to avoid burning petroleum, the cost of a car rental, and the worst part of all—scrubbing the rental car thoroughly enough so they don’t charge you a playa-sized cleaning fee! If you still haven’t bought your BM ticket and plan to ride the BIOBUS, then please get your tickets shipped to you and carry them by hand, to help the BIOBUS avoid long waits at Will Call.

Please read the BIOBUS (space) SHUTTLE FAQ thoroughly regarding cargo limitations: bikes, luggage, food, and water.

I’m burning first time this year, flying over from the UK, so this looks like a great idea.. but will two luggage + groceries + water be enough? I have no idea how much stuff I’ll need

Depends on what kind of great packer you are. Burn Clean Project is about creating the most sustainable burn possible. Less is more. If you buy a carload of things, what will you do with it all when you fly back to England?

How much room do seven different colors of shiny hot shorts take up anyway?

Be a packing ninja! Small tent, sleeping bag, big really really really warm coat, scarf, hat and gloves. Plenty of socks, no underwear necessary, a pair of shaded goggles that flip up to be clear for night riding. A good very comfortable pair of boots. Your toothbrush, some silver eyeshadow, and you’re good. There are usually several fashion camps where you can get some lovely additions to your wardrobe.

Burn clean, burn green baby. Best of luck!

Good luck with it all!

Where do we need to be at 5:45 am to catch the bus from the playa back to Reno? It goes to the RNO airport, right?

1luv on August 23rd, 2009 at 11:31 pm #

6:30 and DNA, right behind Center Camp circle. The BIOBUS will go directly to RENO Int’l Airport.

You can use the community bike program, or, you can get hitch a ride from BM to Gerlach (local town) to try and purchase a bike from the side of the road (Gerlach often has random residents selling bikes on the road). Check with Playa Info at Center Camp for shuttle times. Cost is $20 and you must take your ticket with you when leaving the city.

From Will at Burning Man:

COMMUNITY BIKES

Once again, Burning Man is running the Community Bike program,
offering a fleet of community bicycles available for anyone who needs
a one-way ride. Community Bikes are easy to spot because they are
painted BRIGHT GREEN, with no visible brand and/or the words “YELLOW
BIKE” painted on the frame.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when using a Community Bike:

- Community Bikes are for temporary use by anyone without immediate
access to their own bike. This is not YOUR loaner bike for the week.
Bike rides are only a one-way, temporary guarantee.

- If a Community Bike breaks while you’re using it, use Radical Self-
Reliance to get it repaired for the next person. Check with Playa Info
at Center Camp for a repair camp if you can’t Do-It-Yourself (DIY).

- NEVER LOCK A COMMUNITY BIKE. The bike camp team will cut any locks
from community bikes. Don’t bring a Community Bike into your tent or
RV, and don’t take it home when you leave the playa.

- Community Bikes are meant for short trips. Grab a community bike,
make your trek, and then drop it off where you found it, or leave it
in an obvious public place. Do not keep a community bike in your camp.

- Community Bikes should be treated with respect, as if it was your
own. Be nice to the bike. Don’t trash it, vandalize it or part it out!
It’s a shared community resource. And don’t forget personal
hygiene … pants are required while riding a community bike.

We heart the Community Bike program. Let’s keep it working. Here’s a
blog post about it, if you want to share it with your friends:
